It has been said by many that 2012 was the year that EDM truly took over and went mainstream, and Forbes annual “30 Under 30″ list certainly drove that point home. Grammy nominees and winners Skrillex, Calvin Harris, and Avicii have all managed to make the list this year, which is considered a collection of “young disruptors, innovators, and entrepreneurs…impatient to change the world.” The EDM heavyweights newest honors put them in the same ranking as the likes of pop superstars Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, One Direction, Bruno Mars, and Ke$ha, along with R&B/rap/hip-hop moguls Wiz Khalifa, Mac Miller, and Frank Ocean. Only time will tell where these talented artists will go, but we have no doubt that they will all be in the spotlight and changing the world for a long time to come. You can check out the full list of musicians along with other top lists here.

Ellie Goulding and Skrillex breaking up had to be one of the most disappointing pieces of EDM news. I think everyone had high hopes for this absolutely adorable couple. Maybe one day they’ll find their ways back to each other.

EDC Las Vegas sold out this past summer and had a record breaking 320,000 attendees. This was such big news because it was the biggest festival ever in the history of Electronic Dance Music. In fact the dates have already been set for 2013’s Las Vegas Electric Daisy Carnival!
Deadmau5 randomly found vocals to his song “The Veldt” thanks to today’s social media. Joel Zimmerman created the song during a 22-hour live streaming session and was inspired by the short story “The Veldt” by Ray Bradbury. Chris James reached out to Deadmau5 with his own lyrics that captured the essence of the short story and Zimmerman loved it. The song was officially released June 24, 2012 and the rest is history.
MTV’s VMA’s finally has an electronic dance music category! Enough said!
Swedish House Mafia announced on June 24, 2012 that their next tour will be their last. “One Last Tour” is going on now. You still have a chance to see them live!
Can you think of any better moments that happened for EDM in 2012? Let us know!
Have you heard of Al Walser? No? If you have it’s probably because he’s been all over the music blogs since he was nominated for a Grammy. In fact we posted about him last week. Here is a little overview and update so far.
His song, “I Can’t Live Without You” was nominated for “Best Dance Music Recording” alongside artists like Skrillex, Swedish House Mafia, Avicii and Calvin Harris. The world of music blogs is in a sort of shock and awe over this extremely random nomination.
Yahoo music refers to the song as “an effort that’s not quite Rebecca Black-level terrible, but pretty close in terms of, well, not exactly making the professional grade.” House.net stated, “Certainly, it is difficult to believe that Al Walser’s single was legitimately nominated for the award in question, particularly when one actually listens to it.”
It’s hard not to feel embarrassed for Al Walser because this song is so bad! So bad in fact, we have to share it with you, again!
Here is the additional information. Strangely enough, there is also a video on YouTube of Deadmau5’s Joel Zimmerman reacting to Al Walser’s nomination that was posted under the user name “Al Walser.” It’s hard to tell if Zimmerman is angry, sarcastic or actually doesn’t care at all. Check it out for yourself.
As they say, any publicity is good publicity, what do you think?
When this year’s “Best Dance Record” Grammy nominees were announced, nothing seemed too out of place at first. The contenders were all big-name stars such as Avicii, Skrillex, Swedish House Mafia, and Calvin Harris. All of them have countless fans, millions of YouTube hits, and hundreds of sold-out tours. So when the completely unknown (and, in our humble opinion, not good,) DJ Al Walser suddenly popped up on the ballot, more than a few eyebrows were raised.
The track in question, titled, “I Can’t Live Without You,” is a corny dance catastrophe that at the time of nomination, only had 20 views on YouTube, while Al Walser had less than 1,500 FaceBook fans. So just how does something like this happen? Nobody seems to know! It seems that no matter how impossible it may sound, Walser has actually managed to fix the Grammys. We’ll be bringing you additional details as soon as more information is released, until then, check out “I Can’t Live Without You,” if you dare.
Ellie Goulding’s new album Halcyon is causing a bit of a buzz. Goulding has been promoting her new hit song “Anything Could Happen” by performing recently on the Today Show, Ellen, Jimmy Fallon and Conan.
She was a headliner at the Halloween Masquerade at The House of Blues over the weekend and was the breakthrough artist on VH1’s Top 20 Countdown. Since her album released on October 9th she quickly made her way to Billboard’s Top 10 Albums.
“Anything could happen” seems to be the theme to her life right now. After the album was written she suddenly felt like she was living it after breaking up with her boyfriend. Soon she started dating famed dupstep artist Skrillex making her realize that anything can happen.
Skrillex dropped his new video today on his YouTube channel. The video is for his remix of the Birdy Nam Nam’s track Goin’ In. It’s evident that Skrillex’s fingerprints were all over this one. Check out the dope live footage video below.
