After a career of playing in bands and collaborating with other artists, British singer-songwriter Maddox Jones made his debut as a solo-artist in 2020 with the critically acclaimed, Headspace EP. Shifting his creative process by going solo allowed Jones to channel his deepest emotions, developing a vulnerable body of work while exploring a more diverse sound palette. The result is a personal journey through hedonism, love, loss and the pain of growing up, all echoed by Jones’ honest vocals.
Released on July 10th, 2020 the 5-track debut EP received praise from likes of American Songwriter, SPIN, Complete Music Update and It’s All Indie, among others. Upon release the EP climbed its way to #4 on the iTunes UK Singer/songwriter chart and showcases Jones as one of the most exciting emerging artists of the year.
With each self-penned song on ‘Headspace’ Jones vocals, explore a full range of emotions; from the soft crooner’s opening to the addictive anthemic refrain of “My House”, via the funky-influences of “Dancing Feels Good”, to the powerfully haunting chorus of “No More Ghosts”, the talented songwriter takes the listener into his personal journey.
Jones teamed up with ARIA award nominated multi-platinum selling DJs Bombs Away to deliver an official remix of lead single and title track, “Headspace”. With their remix the internationally recognized Australian duo transform the hypnotic synth-washed pop number into an epic dance-floor ready banger, and helped “Headspace” hit #11 on Music Week’s Commercial Pop Chart.
Jones followed up his debut with the lockdown-inspired single, “World’s Gone Mad”. Written with Mikey Austin-Riley and David Crawford at the start of the first U.K. lockdown, the single is the much needed comfort song for many stuck at home this winter, a reminder of those life affirming hugs so many of us have missed this year.
Produced by Billy Lockett and Louis Souyave, “World’s Gone Mad” is a heartfelt love-letter, expressing a realization that many of us have been experiencing this year; the importance of our relationships with our family, friends and loved ones. Combining a beautifully catchy chorus and piano hook with Jones’s voice, the track has all the nostalgic reminiscence of an early Coldplay record. Premiered by UK music blog New Boots, the music video was directed by Rhys Dunstan at Maddox’s house in between lockdowns.
Most recently Jones released the collaborative single “All For You” with production duo, NIGHT / MOVES. He’s currently writing his follow-up EP scheduled for release later in 2021. Be sure to follow him on social media for updates and more info.
