Maddox Jones Delivers an Alternative Take on Traditional Break-Up Song with “Beautiful Soul”
“Beautiful Soul” is the latest single from British singer-songwriter Maddox Jones debut album Believe It. Released in April of 2022 on Radikal Records, Believe It is an uplifting and hopeful album with Maddox delving into the themes of becoming himself, falling in love as well as overcoming and battling with addiction.
On “Beautiful Soul” Maddox presents an alternative take on the traditional break-up song. Rather than drowning in sorrow or bitterness, the track centers on realizing the flaws in your past relationship and wishing your ex well as you both move on. Layered with warm acoustic guitars, piano and mandolin, the single features a massive hook that will get you singing along on first-listen.

“This is a song about my ex-girlfriend. The breakup really f**king hurt to be fair. I was pretty broken at the start, however, after a few weeks had passed and I was starting to get over it, I could see more clearly that we probably weren’t right together. The song is about coming to terms with a heart wrenching break up and sending love to the other person – because if you’re with someone for a long amount of time obviously there’s love there, no matter how it ends.” – Maddox Jones
Believe It blends summery synth-washed pop with raw, stripped back, honest tracks, showcasing Maddox’s songwriting abilities. As it decisively twists and meanders along beautifully vulnerable lows and highs worthy of rolling down the car windows and singing down the back roads, Maddox creates an album that goes quite a bit deeper than that, illustrating that there is more to discover beneath its surface. With tracks produced by the talented Dave Crawford and Louis Souyave, Believe It combines great songwriting with elements of dance and pop to new levels, creating a feel good 12 track record centered on personal growth.
Having spent the start of his career playing in bands and collaborating with other artists, supporting the likes of Indie Rock icons such as The Killers and Placebo, Jones started his solo venture back in 2020 with the critically acclaimed EP, Headspace, reaching #4 in the iTunes Singer Songwriter Chart. A year after its release, Jones’ backed up the initial success of his debut EP, as his single Can’t Wait for the Summer hit the #1 spot on the same chart.
Having already built a career that included four Top 40 hits as well as playing at Reading and Leeds Festival and Glastonbury with The Departure, Jones on his own has now gone on to being tipped as One to Watch in 2022 by BBC Introducing Northampton in addition to achieving #5 on the Commercial Pop and Upfront Club Chart with Make Me Yours.
