Salt Ashes x DiRTY MiRRORS – Touch Me
London-based singer-songwriter Salt Ashes teams up with producer DiRTY MiRRORS for a collaborative reinterpretation of Rui Da Silva’s house classic, “Touch Me”.
Ranked at #70 on The Guardian’s list of ‘The 100 Greatest UK No 1 Singles’, “Touch Me” remains a club classic to this day, thanks to Silva’s futuristic and hypnotic production allowing vocalist, Cassandra Fox’s performance to shine. With their new cover the two musicians push this formula forward, with DiRTY MiRRORS laying down a high-energy electro house track that showcases Salt Ashes’ dreamlike vocals, as he loops and mixes her voice to create an irresistible groove.
Salt Ashes is no stranger to the original record, having released a live acoustic performance of “Touch Me” in 2017, which was shared and praised by Rui Da Silva himself. A true fan-favorite, Salt Ashes added the track into her recent live show supporting, Bimini to tremendous acclaim and requests for a studio version, which she now delivers with the help of DiRTY MiRRORS.
“I’ve always loved the song by Rui Da Silva so I decided to cover it acoustically for a live session on Youtube a few years back. Rui Da Silva himself said in an interview that that was one of his favourite versions he’s heard, which of course is mad to me! DiRTY MiRRORS took that live vocal I did and mixed it into a dance record and it bangs, so here it is, released for everyone to hear and hopefully love as much as me.” – Salt Ashes
Fusing together influences like Bjork, Depeche Mode and Change, Salt Ashes has become widely-known for her introspective electronic/dance music with a dark, disco-esque flair. Praise has come from far and wide since she broke onto the scene, most notably from The Guardian, DIY, Wonderland, Billboard, MTV, Clash, Line of Best Fit and NOISEY. She has toured with artists such as Tove Styrke, Say Lou Lou, Nimmo, Bright Light Bright Light, Tiffany and most recently with Goldfrapp on their UK tour.
DiRTY MiRRORS is the solo project of South London producer, Louis Souyave who also produced Salt Ashes latest single “Heart Attack”, along with her sophomore album Killing My Mind (2021) and counting crosses EP (2020). The two musicians have more music planned for 2023 – so stay tuned.
