Rising electronic artist Salt Ashes aka Veiga Sanchez continues to celebrate the release of her self-titled debut album, which was release on Friday, July 15th. The album’s lead single “Save It” is climbing the Billboard Dance Club chart, and is currently #25. The songstress recently spoke with music blog BANDWIDTHCULTURE about her debut album, working with DJ Kristian Nairn, and much more. Check out some of the exclusive interview below, and be sure to head over to bandwidthculture.com for the full interview.

Salt Ashes is a very creative yet unusual name to go by, what is the a story behind the name?
I saw it scratched on the side of a wooden boat in Brighton when I was walking one day… I soon realised that I wanted to use those two words for this project as it felt like it summed up my writing at the time.

When you first decided that you wanted to make music, did you go in wanting to make electronic music, or was it something that just happened?
That is something that developed quite naturally over time. I originally started playing with a live band when I was discovering my voice and songwriting. I realised after a few gigs that something wasn’t right so I took some time out and messed around with logic and experimented more with my voice which led to my style of songwriting now. Sometimes you just need to breathe and allow for whatever to come out to flourish

Your debut album was just released on the 15th of this month, what was it like recording the album?
The album has been in the making for a few years now really, so it wasn’t like I spent 6 months solidly in the studio, it was more one song here and another song there in-between gigging and working in other areas of the industry to survive. Doing it this way, in some ways, has less pressure attached as it was really done in our own time with little deadlines…So it feels like a huge achievement now that it’s out after it being in the making for quite a while.

You probably receive this question a lot but, you got to track a single called “4Love” with Kristian Nairn who is famous for playing Hodor on Game of Thrones, what was it like being able to work with him?
Incredible and very easy. Everything was actually done over emails… He sent me a track which I wrote a top-line to; recorded it and then he produced it to what it is now. It’s a great way of working with someone if you live in different parts of the world! I’m also a huge GOT fan so this was a bonus.

Your track “Save It” has currently charted number 25 on the Billboard Dance Club chart, what is that like having a song on the same chart as Sia, Calvin Harris, Alex Newell and more?
It’s unbelievable. I hope that the single continues the way that it’s going and that the album follows suit.

Now that your album is out for the world to hear, what is next for Salt Ashes? Is there any chance for a tour in the US?
I really hope so. It just depends how the album is received by the public .. I’m hoping for more live shows, tours and then onto the second album. Fingers crossed.
