Salt Ashes – Lucy

Stream/Download “Lucy”

Salt Ashes tackles violence against women in new single “Lucy” off upcoming sophomore album Killing My Mind out November 5th.

London-based pop and electronic artist Salt Ashes reveals the latest single from her forthcoming album, Killing My Mind. Carrying a hard-hitting message, “Lucy” is a song that speaks out against violence towards women. Released on October 22nd, and with a self-directed video to follow, “Lucy” is the opening track off the highly anticipated new album, out November 5th via Radikal Records.

“‘Lucy’ represents every woman who has ever been objectified, commodified or had their consent diminished. I knew it would be a difficult subject to tackle, especially with the Sarah Everard case being so raw right now for everyone but behaviours need to change and change starts with a conversation… So we shouldn’t be afraid to talk about it.” – Salt Ashes

Musically, the song blends a searing combination of raw synth textures and reverberated guitars with a relentlessly driving and pulsating rhythm section, it’s nothing short of fierce. As Salt Ashes’ soaring vocals sing “You commit a crime” she delivers a message of defiance.

The single will be accompanied by a Tarantino/Wes Anderson inspired music video, directed by and starring Salt Ashes. Whilst taking a tongue-in-cheek approach, it also tackles the theme of the song head-on and illustrates a very real experience of Salt Ashes.

Speaking of the song and video’s inspiration, Salt Ashes said: “I wrote the song after an experience I had at a petrol station when I was filling up my car. A man was opposite me getting his own fuel and was staring at me. I awkwardly, but politely, smiled at him which he took as an invitation to come over and harass me. I apparently “gave him a look” and in his words “what I was wearing was too sexy to not be interested”.

“This kind of thing happens all the time and it has to stop,” continues Salt Ashes. “The change does not come from me wearing something different but from men changing their behaviour.”

Most recently the singer shared the singles “Too Many Times” and “Love, Love” which will both appear on the upcoming album. Salt Ashes will be celebrating the release of Killing My Mind with her first live performance of 2021 on November 1st at The Grace in London.
