Kristian Nairn’s Exclusive Interview With NME.com

DJ Kristian Nairn is gearing up for his upcoming ‘Rave of Thrones‘ gigs, where he will be making stops in Dublin and London this July. Nairn, who is most recognized as the lovable Hodor on HBO‘s hit series Game of Thrones, recently spoke with NME.com about his music career, Rave of Thrones, and much more. Check out some of the exclusive interview below, but be sure to visit NME.com to read the full interview!

You’ve been DJing for a long time – how has Thrones changed your experience of being a DJ?
Well its certainly added a few more stamps on my passport, thats for sure! I guess it piqued people’s interest. At the time, it seemed to be a bit of a phenomenon that I was a DJ as well as an actor, which I remember finding very strange. It had been my day job for so many years before the show, I really didn’t see why everyone was so astounded. I have NO difficulty with career duality!

Describe your average set in five words.
Loud, bassy, dark, uplifting, fluid.

What are your favourite things to play? What gets the biggest reaction from your crowds?
I’m fortunate to play in a lot of different countries and cities, and it’s very interesting to see that different places get different reactions. Some places are looking for the hard rhythmic hit of the drums… others need a vocal.. and some wait for basslines and dropouts! It’s really cool to see how things differ. So that one is a hard one to answer. I would say I like a combination of all three aforementioned.

What are the crowds like at Rave of Thrones?
They are just superb. I never could have foretold how awesome they would be. The crowds vary from a mostly house music crowd, to those who are purely fans of the show. It’s always the best when it’s a good mix of both. I think somehow the two crowds seem to encourage each other!
