UK singer-songwriter Maddox Jones releases a special acoustic version of his latest single “Can’t Wait for the Summer”
Maddox Jones is bringing some much-needed optimism to listeners this Spring with his latest single, “Can’t Wait for the Summer”. Released last month, the new track hit #1 on iTunes UK Singer/songwriter chart and strong feedback from UK and BBC Radio.
Now in support of the single Maddox is delivering an acoustic rendition. Performed by Maddox and Dave Crawford, who co-produced the original record, this new version highlights the song’s infectious pop melodies with it’s stripped down production of guitars, tambourine and hand-claps.
“Can’t Wait for the Summer” has a kind of campfire singalong vibe to it, and I really wanted to show that side of the song off by doing an acoustic version. Me and Dave Crawford recorded it a couple of weeks ago at Plastic Tree Studios and we’re really proud of how shows the song in a different light. A breezy and bittersweet ode to simpler times, “Can’t Wait for the Summer” captures in song our collective desire to escape the trials and tribulations of the past year and enjoy carefree summer days once again. Jones’ new single sees the singer-songwriter reminiscing about romantic memories over a vibrant palette of guitar, synths and vocal harmonies, as he recalls “dreaming the day away into an 8-track recorder, wishing you were mine”.
Formerly the front man of lauded indie-rock outfit The Departure, Maddox Jones made his solo debut in 2020 with his EP, Headspace. Receiving praise from the likes of SPIN, American Songwriter, BBC, Record Of The Day and iHeart Radio the EP climbed to #4 on the iTunes UK Singer/songwriter chart. The title track and lead single also rose to #11 in the Music Week commercial pop club charts.
After experimenting successfully with a synth-led electronic sound on Headspace, Jones is proving his versatility and range by moving into new sonic territory and breaking new musical ground. “Can’t Wait for the Summer” is a glorious guitar-driven pop record, built on incredibly catchy melodies and an anthemic, radio-ready chorus that’s begging to be blasted from the speakers at Glastonbury’s main stage.
Co-produced by Billy Lockett and David Crawford and mixed by Ed Buller, known for his work with Suede, Pulp, and White Lies, the track brings together polished production, heartfelt songwriting and authentic emotion to produce what’s undoubtedly one of 2021’s brightest new pop songs.
