After a career of playing in bands and collaborating with artists, Northampton singer-songwriter Maddox Jones made his debut as a solo-artist in 2020 with the critically acclaimed, Headspace EP. Since then, Maddox’s eclectic mix of indie rock, pop, and soul influences and honest and heartfelt lyrics have led to a wave of support throughout the United Kingdom and around the globe. With his music repeatedly topping the iTunes charts, support from BBC Radio and numerous national TV appearances across the UK, Maddox truly is a rising star in the genre.
In November of 2024 Maddox released his highly anticipated sophomore album, ‘Waiting for the World to Turn’, on Radikal Records. Brimming with vibrant melodies and emotional depth, the 14-track collection showcases Jones’ evolution as an artist as he explores themes of reflection, personal growth, and the longing for change.
The new album features lead single, ‘One Minute’, a striking nod to his indie-rock roots, the empowering ‘Change My Number’, and a gorgeous duet with London singer and label-mate, Livvy Lauren, on ‘Another Sad Song’. Drawingfrom powerhouse vocalists like Rag’n’Bone Man, Teddy Swims, and Tom Walker, Maddox channels raw emotion and delivers a soul-stirring performance that marks a bold sonic shift. Influences for the album span a wide range of artists and genres, from The Beatles and Radiohead to Dua Lipa and Coldplay.
“‘Waiting for the World to Turn’ is my second album, and I’m incredibly proud of how far I’ve come. Most of the songs were written with friends over the last six months, so this album really captures a moment in time for me. I’ve been navigating a busy life, getting older, and working through personal growth in therapy. Writing these songs felt like having a conversation with myself about where I am mentally and emotionally. I hope people feel that same connection when they listen to it.” – Maddox Jones
This new era for Maddox comes amid a whirlwind of recognition. He was named Songwriter of the Year at the Northamptonshire Local Music Awards, and has been steadily writing and collaborating with artists such as Billy Locket, Janet Devlin, and Great Adamz.
Maddox enjoyed early success as the lead singer of the alt-rock band, The Departure, securing four Top 40 hits, sharing the stage with iconic bands such as The Killers and Placebo, and playing prestigious festivals like Reading & Leeds and Glastonbury. Since starting to perform as a solo artist, he’s had a track record of electrifying performances alongside notable acts like Thomas Heaton, Matt Goss, Kenny Thomas, Beaux, The Lottery Winners, Lemar and most recently joining pop legend Will Young on his sold-out UK tour in 2024.
Having burst onto the scene as a solo artist in 2020 with the critically acclaimed EP, ‘Headspace’, the EP reached #4 in the iTunes Singer-Songwriter chart. The follow-up 2021 single, ‘Can’t Wait for the Summer’ followed suit, hitting the top spot on the same chart. Tipped as One to Watch by BBC Introducing Northampton, Maddox has garnered further acclaim across the industry, earning a spot at #5 on Music Week’s Commercial Pop and Upfront Club Chart with ‘Make Me Yours’ off his debut album “Believe It”.
Maddox is a strong advocate for mental health awareness. In the past few years he’s visited well over 50 schools around the United Kingdom, giving motivational speeches to youngsters of all ages based on his own life experiences, along with performing music for and with the students and encouraging their artistry. His travels helped inspire his uplifting, “We All Need Somebody” released in support of Mental Health Awareness Week in the UK.
In 2024 he released the hit, “England Together”, was released in support of England’s Euros 2024 campaign and helped to raise money for mental health charity Head in the Game. Serving as a celebratory echo of the team and sparking a national call for unity within the sport, the track brought Maddox into the spotlight with appearances on national TV on Sky Sports, ITV News and multiple BBC Radio interviews across the country.
