Originally released as a poignant piano ballad, “21” is a reflective song on the realisation that the days of youth have come and gone, and that’s OK. “I think as a musician it’s easy to get caught in the trap of thinking that you have to be young to be relevant,” states Maddox. “Remember that no matter what age you are you don’t have to have it all figured out, everyone’s journey is different.”

Maddox’s new mix of “21” was recorded in Nashville at Martina McBride’s Blackbird Studio, tracked by Lowell Reynolds (Shania Twain, BoyGenius, Taylor Swift) and mixed at Sputnik Sound by six-time Grammy-Award winning producer Vance Powell (Chris Stapleton, Jack White).

Building upon the track’s emotive piano backdrop is a band of Nashville greats, with Billy Justineau on piano (Eric Church, Miranda Lambert, Lainey Wilson), Lex Price on bass guitar (k.d. lang, Neko Case), Gideon Klein on Guitar (Colbie Caillat, Delta Rae, Rodney Atkins) and Chris McHugh on drums (Kenny Rogers, LeAnn Rimes, Brooks & Dunn). Amplifying the original track’s emotional weight, the new full band mix adds a new layer of anthemic energy that begs to be sung out loud together.

Fresh off the back of an incredible run opening for pop icon Will Young on his UK comeback tour, Maddox releases “21” while on the road supporting Lucy Spraggan‘s acoustic UK tour. The singer-songwriter has been bringing his emotive storytelling and signature blend of indie rock, pop, and soul influences to Lucy’s devoted audiences across the country, appearing at some of the UK’s most beloved venues, including London’s iconic Union Chapel, Edinburgh’s Queen’s Hall, and the O2 Academy in Oxford.

Maddox enjoyed early success with The Departure, securing four Top 40 hits, sharing the stage with iconic bands such as The Killers and Placebo, and playing prestigious festivals like Reading & Leeds and Glastonbury. Maddox has a track record of electrifying performances alongside notable acts like Thomas Heaton, Beaux, The Lottery Winners, and Lemar.

Having burst onto the scene as a solo artist in 2020 with the critically acclaimed EP, ‘Headspace’, the EP reached #4 in the iTunes Singer-Songwriter chart. The follow-up 2021 single, ‘Can’t Wait for the Summer’ followed suit, hitting the top spot on the same chart. Tipped as One to Watch by BBC Introducing Northampton, Maddox has garnered further acclaim across the industry, earning a spot at #5 on Music Week’s Commercial Pop and Upfront Club Chart with ‘Make Me Yours’ off his debut album ‘Believe It’.

Brimming with vibrant melodies and emotional depth, the now 18-track deluxe album showcases Jones’ evolution as an artist as he explores themes of reflection, personal growth, and the longing for change. (Still) Waiting for the World To Turn is available on April 18th.
