It has been said by many that 2012 was the year that EDM truly took over and went mainstream, and Forbes annual “30 Under 30″ list certainly drove that point home. Grammy nominees and winners Skrillex, Calvin Harris, and Avicii have all managed to make the list this year, which is considered a collection of “young disruptors, innovators, and entrepreneurs…impatient to change the world.” The EDM heavyweights newest honors put them in the same ranking as the likes of pop superstars Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, One Direction, Bruno Mars, and Ke$ha, along with R&B/rap/hip-hop moguls Wiz Khalifa, Mac Miller, and Frank Ocean. Only time will tell where these talented artists will go, but we have no doubt that they will all be in the spotlight and changing the world for a long time to come. You can check out the full list of musicians along with other top lists here.

It’s that time again – Throwback Thursday! This week, check out a Radikal Records classic, “Fire Wire” by Cosmic Gate!
Throughout the years, people have heard story after story about absurd artists demands. From Axl Rose wanting a “square melon” in his dressing room to Eminem’s “need” for a Koi pond, not much shocks the general public anymore. Superstar DJ Diplo shattered any sense of security people had about the craziness of artists this past week when the rider for his Manhattan Pier 94 show was released. Media outlets are running rampant with claims saying that is both is and is not serious but honestly, with a list like this, we’re guessing that either way, the joke is on us. The full list of demands is as follows:
Two (2) Air Horns
Two (2) Inflatable Animals (Bonus points for endangered or extinct species)
Four (4) Blank Maxell Cassettes (New in Package)
One (1) Paddle Swimmin’ Pool
1983 G.I. Joe Storm Shadow Action Figure (New in Package)
One (1) Framed Picture of Diplo
One (1) Gorilla (Silverback is preferred, an Orangutan is also acceptable)
Ten (10) Magnum Condoms
One (1) Malawian Orphan
One (1) Arranged Marriage
One (1) Original Nintendo in the box (with receipt from Kiddy City)
One (1) Violin Player (to play while we eat our cheese plate)
Two (2) Matches and Lighter Fluid
One (1) Bonfire Pit
Two (2) Logs to sit on
Third season of Lost (on VHS tapes)
One (1) Parrot that is trained to say your name
One (1) dart board (with Nicolas Cage’s face on it)
Short Wave Radio
One (1) 1983 Yak Face Star Wars Return of the Jedi Action Figure (New in Package)

Ah, romance in the digital age…it’s like watching a fairy tale unfold right in front of your eyes, isn’t it? Former “LA Ink” star (and ex-mistress of Jesse James,) Kat Von D got the surprise of her lifetime when on-again-off-again boyfriend Joel Zimmerman, AKA Deadmau5, proposed on twitter, and chose to share the intimate moment with his over 1.8 million followers. The deejay posted a picture of the ring with an attached message that read, “I can’t wait for Christmas so…Katherine Von Drachenberg, will you marry me?” Kat immediately tweeted back, “Mi corazon! Thank you all for the lovely congratulations! Please excuse me while I go squeeze the hell out of my fiance!”
…And they say that romance is dead.
Chicago EDM hard hitters Krewella are offering a free download of their new “Play Harder” EP in exchange for one little thing – a “like” on FaceBook. Having been around for years before hitting it big, Krewella have certainly cashed in on some favors that friends may have owed them, with the EP featuring remixes from big names such as The Pegboard Nerds, Dirtyphonics, and Chuckie. The deluxe version of the album comes out on December 17th, but until then, make sure to give them a “like,” and download the free version today!

It’s that time of week again: Throwback Thursday! This week, we’re bringing back one of Schiller’s greatest club/dance hits from years back that is still being spun today. The only thing we ask of you: don’t sit back and relax, get up and start dancing!
As the year end approaches we think it is appropriate to share what we have found. EDM Sauce recently posted what they thought were the top ten best moments in EDM this past year. We at Radikal couldn’t agree more, so we picked a few of our favorites to share with you.
Ellie Goulding and Skrillex breaking up had to be one of the most disappointing pieces of EDM news. I think everyone had high hopes for this absolutely adorable couple. Maybe one day they’ll find their ways back to each other.
Rusko Releasing his music for free on his website. Let’s hope more EDM artists get angry and give us free music! You can get his free EP “KAPOW” by paying with a tweet or facebook post or by joining his mailing list. If you want, you can buy it on iTunes with money instead… but why would you do that?
EDC Las Vegas sold out this past summer and had a record breaking 320,000 attendees. This was such big news because it was the biggest festival ever in the history of Electronic Dance Music. In fact the dates have already been set for 2013’s Las Vegas Electric Daisy Carnival!
Deadmau5 randomly found vocals to his song “The Veldt” thanks to today’s social media. Joel Zimmerman created the song during a 22-hour live streaming session and was inspired by the short story “The Veldt” by Ray Bradbury. Chris James reached out to Deadmau5 with his own lyrics that captured the essence of the short story and Zimmerman loved it. The song was officially released June 24, 2012 and the rest is history.
MTV’s VMA’s finally has an electronic dance music category! Enough said!
Swedish House Mafia announced on June 24, 2012 that their next tour will be their last. “One Last Tour” is going on now. You still have a chance to see them live!
Can you think of any better moments that happened for EDM in 2012? Let us know!
